What God is Doing in Romania
Through scripture we discover God’s eternal purpose to glorify himself and how he works this out in history. For example we find this great promise in Matthew 16:18 “I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” When Christ speaks of building his church, he does not have in view buildings made of bricks and mortar, but people, whom he is bringing together as dwelling for God in the Spirit.
After impressive growth in the 1990’s, it is clear that Christ’s church in Romania has continued to grow in the first decade of this millennium.

Pray for Romania
From December 1947 until December 1989 a totalitarian communist dictatorship controlled Romania. The fall of communism brought freedom to Romania's impoverished people. Evangelical believers, oppressed and persecuted under communism, acted quickly to spread the gospel among Romania's villages and cities in the 1990s.
It is recognized that Romania is one of the top five Christian "hot spots" in Europe today. There are more evangelical churches in Romania than the rest of the countries in Eastern Europe put together. In all of Europe, Romania has the third-largest number of evangelicals. Still, that percentage is just 2.5%, and there are still 19 cities and over 9,600 villages that do not have a group of believers meeting regularly.

The State of World Evangelization
What still needs to be done to evangelize the world? In the world today seven out of ten people are clearly lost, three out of ten have never heard about Jesus, and only one person in ten is an active follower of Jesus Christ. The world’s population is growing at an average rate of 1.2% yearly. That is almost 80,000,000 people per year - the combined populations of Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. Any religion that seeks to increase its presence in the world must exceed this growth rate. And Christianity is! However, Christianity--in all its expressions--is not growing as fast as Islam or some ethnic religions. It is clear that the world will not be evangelized if we do not change our missionary efforts. Could I serve with OC in Romania?
We are looking for qualified individuals who can serve in the following ways. Contact us if you are interested in learning more.
Church Planting Coordinator
Based on our team’s research we have advanced a preliminary goal of planting over 2,500 churches in Romania’s villages and cities. Currently about 100 churches are being started per year. Most of those churches are needed in the southeastern part of the country. Many potential church planters need guidance, training, and encouragement. An experienced church planting coach could significantly increase the effectiveness of Romanian church planters and see many more churches planted! Click here to read the profile.
Teacher of Missionary Children
Bucharest Christian Academy offers the children of missionaries and other expatriates a solid education from first grade through high school. The school provides a very valuable service to missionary families, many of which would not be here were it not for the school. It also creates the opportunity for showing Christian love to families and students from other countries and cultures. Positions for teachers are frequently coming open – especially at the high school level. Further information about the school is available through www.bcaromania.org.
